How do I Fix Bad Sectors On a Disk?

Click on the disk's button. Click the Verify Media button. This will bring up the Verify Media dialog. The default options will scan your entire disk, verifying that each sector can be read. If a sector cant be read, it is added to a list of bad sectors, and scanning continues. If the Error Field in the Status Page turns red, errors have been encountered. When the verify finishes, it will show the Detected Defects page. At the bottom there are two buttons, ReFormat and Reassign. You will want to use the reassign button. The reassign command for each of the hilighted sectors copies the data to a spare spot on the drive, marks that sector as reassigned and uses the new location from now on. So, you can get your disk running smoothly without losing any data, or having to reformat.

How do I repair Zip Disks?

Use the above FAQ about finding bad sectors on a disk. However, Zip media is not all that great, and sometimes when you access a bad area of a Zip Disk, the Zip Drive Firmware will loop forever trying to read or reassign bad sectors.  If this is the case there is only 1 thing you can do:  try to reassign the bad sectors 1 sector at a time.   This may prevent it from hanging, but it doesnt always work.
